In a release issued on Wednesday, BIA said that festivities planned include a three-day Hasiru Habba (Green Carnival) that will go live with the support of NGOs and BIAL’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) volunteers.

S R Vishwanath, Yelahanka MLA, will hoist the flag on Saturday, the entire airport community, passengers and visitors at the airport have been invited to participate in the event that will begin with flag hoisting on August 15. It will continue with the Hasiru Habba until the evening of August 17.

This activity will be held from 9 am to 9 pm at the curbside of the terminal building, making this event easily accessible to all, the BIA press release stated.

Speaking about the initiative, Marcel Hungerbuehler, CEO of BIAL said, “This is the second green initiative by the airport that is open to the public.”

Last year on the I-Day, the airport encouraged employees and passengers to pledge independence from litter and promise to keep the environment clean and green.

Symbolic of 61 years of Indian Independence, 610 trees were planted in the city.

This year too, support from the City’s NGOs has been encouraging. Through their displays, products and interactions, they will subtly spread the importance of the 4 R’s -’Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Re-grow,’ all in a carnival atmosphere.”
