Jewellers to install CCTVs

The association has also warned its members that a fine will be imposed if any jeweller failed to install CCTV cameras.

At the annual general body meeting, apart from demanding additional security from Bangalore City police, the BSJA President T A Sharvana said the ever increasing cost of gold is a prime factor for the increase in theft.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Manjunath asked the jewellers to also try and use safety measures that can help the police in identifying the culprits.

Allaying fears of the jewellers he said: “It is advisable that all outlets keep their CCTV cameras running round the clock. The trend in the City is to switch off the CCTV during night which is detrimental to the jewellers. It is also important to employ people after a proper background check.”
