Blackburn Rovers to play against Pune FC on Oct 7

Last Updated 26 September 2011, 09:15 IST

The match, which was first scheduled for July 22 but got postponed due to security reasons following bomb explosion in Mumbai, will be played at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi-Mhalunge here.

The Lancashire-based side's trip to India will be the first ever by an EPL side. Pune FC will thus become the first Indian club to face a side from a league so passionately followed all over the world.

Blackburn Rovers, owned by Pune-based Indian poultry firm Venky's, are one of only four clubs to have won the Premier League, along with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
"We are very happy to host them (Blackburn Rovers). The opportunity is great for the fans and on Pune FC's behalf I am happy to share this moment with the fans," Pune FC director Nandan Piramal said in a release.

The match is expected to be played under floodlights though the exact time is yet to be finalised. Both the managements struck upon the date this week only.
