Players need to deliver:Bhajji

The Mumbai Indians skipper had said at the post-match presentation that his side didn’t deserve to win. “We didn’t play well at all,” he conceded. “We didn’t take responsibility.

Playing too many shots was the problem. We need people to take more responsibility. It was in that sense that I said we didn’t deserve to win. We were right on track with the ball, specially after the start they got off to. But as I always say, it is not how you start the race that matters, it is how you finish it. T&T showed a lot of heart and I thought they were the better side on the day.”

In two matches, neither Kieron Pollard nor Andrew Symonds has come good with the bat. “When I said people need to take more responsibility, that’s what I was referring to,” Harbhajan countered. “These guys have played a lot of international cricket. We depend on them a lot. The next two teams are strong ones and hopefully, things will improve.”

The Chinnaswamy surface, Harbhajan asserted, had no role to play in the low-scoring contest. “It is a pretty good T20 wicket with the ball coming on nicely. Bangalore has probably the best wicket for batting in India. The ball neither seamed nor spun, so it can’t be the wicket.”

His T&T counterpart Daren Ganga had a different point of view. “We had heard about this wicket being a very good one and we let that rule our brains a bit,” he said. “It was slow, there was tennis-ball bounce. Also, a lot of silly mistakes cost us. As far as our bowling goes, we can’t ask anything more from our bowlers.

“In T20 cricket, 98 is obviously no score. But the manner in which we fought was something we can take heart from.”
