The fire broke out when a spark from the house of Somashekarappa, son of Shivanna, hit the thatched hut. The huts of neighbours Thimmegowda, Thimmaraju, Chikkadurappa, Chikkegowda, Siddegowda and Rangappa were also destroyed in the fire.
It is estimated that the fire has caused a loss of goods worth Rs five lakh including Rs 40,000 cash.
MLA Shivalingegowda announced compensation of Rs 5,000 to each family and one quintal of rice.
He assured that houses would be constructed under the Ashraya scheme.
