Gupta, project officer of the NHAI, was in the city on Friday to attend a meeting regarding providing compensation to farmers who forfeited land for construction of the highway in the area with the Deputy Commissioner and the local farmers.

He later visited Nandi Cross to inspect the condition of the service roads in the area.
The farmers complained to Gupta that the service roads had been virtually ruined in the rain. “This was, however, months ago and the roads have not been repaired till now. The problem will only aggravate if there are more showers,” they said and blamed substandard work for the condition of the roads.

The number of accidents near Chadulapura Cross is increasing. Therefore, the area needs transport security measures undertaken, said the farmers and suggested construction of underpass and installation of signal lights in the place to handle the problem.

In response, Gupta said work on an underpass would cost about Rs 11 crore and the Authority is waiting for a green signal from the Central Government. “But the service roads will be repaired immediately, he promised.

Sub-divisional officer Satish Kumar, farmer leaders Yaluvahalli Sonnegowda, B N Munikrishnappa and others were present.
