Last Updated 27 September 2011, 16:36 IST

The Co-operative sectors is all set for brisk politics and lobbying for their candidates. This election is being held for the second term.

Members of JD(S), Congress and BJP are busy preparing strategies.

There are 20 voters in Kumul, including 13 elected directors, three nominated members and four officers.

Elected directors include T N Rajagopal, K N Nagaraj, A V Prasanna, S Ramegowda, K V Nagaraj, S Shobha belong to JD(S). K Gudiyappa, Manjunatha Reddy, S V Subbareddy, N Ashwathappa and Munivenkatappa are from Congress.

Jayasimha Krishnappa who won the election of President in the last term as a Congress member has changed his party and has joined BJP. Apart from him Ramesh is also from BJP.

Meanwhile political partis are trying for an alliance. The JD(S) and the Congress like the previous year have entered into an agreement.

According to the pact, the Congress will get the president post for the first term and in the second term, the JD(S) will get the president post.

However, the JD(S) has its own doubts about sharing. The Congress for the second term during its first term pact did not get the president post as S Ramesh of BJP was elected as the president. At the same time Jayasimha Krishnappa showed interest in the BJP. The JD(S) is doubtful of giving president post to the Congress as it lacks unity.

Aspirants

Rajgopal, Prasanna, K N Nagaraj and Ramegowda from JD(S), Munivenkatappa, from Congress are the strong aspirants for the president post.

All the aspirants have good experience and strong political connection.

Speculation

It is being speculated that the BJP may not get the post as the JD(S) and the Congress have entered into a pact.

Of the 20 votes, president post aspirants should get 10 votes. (As the representative of the National Dairy Development Board will not attend the election, 19 voters will be considered. Hence, the winner should get 10 votes.)

There are 11 elected directors from both the parties. So, any one from both the parties can be elected as president, if the JD(S) and the Congress enters into a pact. However, if the representative of the National Dairy Development Board attends to vote, then the winner should get 11 votes.

Another possibility

The BJP can get, nine votes –– three from three nominated members, three officers and Jayasimha Krishnappa, S Ramees and Gangamma are included. BJP needs two votes to win the post.

So it is eyeing to get directors from the Congress and the  JD(S), it is said. It is learnt that Minister Varthur Prakash is also showing interest in the elections.
