HC notice to Centre, Delhi govt on plea to check terror attacks

Last Updated 28 September 2011, 06:56 IST

A division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjeev Khanna issued notice to the Centre and the Delhi government seeking their response within six weeks.

The plea, filed by Society of Indian Law Firms through counsel Lalit Bhasin, had sought directions to the Union Home Ministry and the Chief Secretary of the Delhi government to take adequate measures including deployment of Rapid Action Force and National Security Guards at different locations to counter terrorism.

The bench after issuing notices to the Centre and the Delhi government slated the plea for next hearing on November 14.

The plea had come up for hearing earlier on September 22 before a single-judge bench of Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw, who had referred it to a larger bench saying the petition was of public interest in nature.

The petition had been filed in the wake of the September 7 terrorist attack at the Delhi High Court in which 15 people were killed and over 70 others injured in a bomb blast.
