He was chairing a meeting of Scheduled caste and tribes welfare committee at Zilla Panchayat auditorium on Wednesday. Though the meeting discussed many other issues plaguing the progress of Dalits in districts, the topic eventually turned towards the issue of Dalits being ostracised at Arkalgud in Siddapura in the recent past.

Though the leaders were assured that action would be initiated against those found guilty, they continued to make allegations against circle inspector.

“A complaint has been lodged against 17 people who were party to the crime, but not a single person has been arrested. Instead, the inspector has helped them go underground.

We went to lodge a complaint at around 3 pm on the day the incident occurred, however, FIR was prepared only by 3 am next morning,” they said. Though the Superintendent of Police said three persons were arrested and the rest would also be arrested soon, people continued to complain.

Putting a stop to this, Deputy Commissioner Jagadish said: “This is not a platform to engage in duel. We are aware of the problem and would initiate proper action soon. If you continue to insist, we will end the meeting right here,” he said, and it was only after this the meeting was brought under control.
