34 child labourers rescued

A team comprising Labour Department, Justice, members of the various NGOs and JJ Nagar police jointly raided  MBI Industries owned by Mohammad Tabrez Alam, M J Bags owned by Jabbir Hussein, V1 Bags owned by Javed Hussein and Sukariya Bags owned by Sukariya, all located at Janata Colony in JJ Nagar and rescued the young boys.

Of those rescued, 10 were 14 years old, 24 of them between 14 and 18 years and three above 18 years. The doctors verified the age of the victims. who were shifted to Bal Bhavan. All of them hail from east Champaran district in Bihar.

4 cases booked

The police booked four cases, including two under Child Labour Act, Juvenile Justice Act and Section 344 of the IPC (wrongful confinement). The police arrested Shashme Alam, the supervisor for the boys, and Mohammad Parvez Alam, the brother of MBI Industries owner.

All the owners, who also hail from Bihar, are absconding. The police have launched a search to arrest them. Police said Shamshe Alam took the boys to Bangalore to work in shops and industrial units about four months ago. He was their supervisor to them in Bangalore. They were staying at their respective workplaces. The police have taken Alam into custody, said DCP (West) S N Sidramappa.
