Christ wins war of words

The subject of debate was ‘India should legalise voluntary, active euthanasia’. The Christ Junior College team, comprising Kripa and Nikhunj Aggarwal, walked away with the top honours and the opportunity to participate in the National Finals of ‘Debating Matters India’ at the British Council, Delhi in November.

The other finalists, the team from KVMG, comprising Akanksha K and Varsha Ramakrishnan were declared runners up.

The two teams that made it to the finals battled questions from the three judges – author-journalist C K Meena, publisher Jamuna Rao and teacher-author Richard Swan, and their fellow students.

Earlier in the day, 12 schools took part in the contest that encourages high school students to discuss current issues in a contest format. The participants debated on issues ranging from civil society’s activism to artistic freedom.
