Drupadamba Karaga celebrated with fervour

One could also hear the deafening Govinda Govinda from the devotees who surrounded the Karaga.

The 63rd Draupatamba Karaga Mahotsava was held with religious fervour at the Dharmarayaswamy Temple in Bangarpet on Sunday night. Devotees in large number took part in the mahotsav.

Priest Nagaraj from Betamangala once again carried the Karaga on his head. The celebrations began with Nagaraj carrying the Karaga came out of the temple on his knees at round 10 pm.

The devotees who had gathered in large numbers outside the temple chanted Govinda Govinda on spotting the Karaga and showered jasmine flowers on it.

The Karaga danced in front of the temple paying obeisance to the Pancha Pandavas and as per the traditions it came to Karahalli temple and from their visited the houses of the prominent village men for rituals.

Special arrangements were made for the Karaga celebrations. A platform was erected near the temple for the convenience of the people. In order to help women devotees view karaga, space was created next to the platform.

The floral palanquins of many deities from the surrounding villages and from some of the wards in the town brought to the mahotsav created visual treat for devotees. The entire town was decked up in serial sets.

Devotees from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bangalore, Mulbagal, Malur, KGF and other places had arrived to watch the karaga.

 TMC President Shamshuddin Babu, DySP P Kudchi, Circle Inspector J Keshavamurth, JD(S) leader M S Anand, V Sheshu, APMC President K M Murali, Sub-Inspector C B Shivaswamy, Vemagal Thigala Sangha President M N Swamy, Rajakalluhalli Muniraju, K V Ravi, J Rajanna, SandeGowda, Nanda, Bhagyamma, Arunachalam Mani, Ravi, Prakash, P  Srinivas and others participated in the celebrations.
