Thieves dampen festive joy

Unidentified persons gained entry into the house of Srinivas Murthy at Yelahanka New Town by breaking open window grills when the family had gone to their relative’s house. When the family returned home at 9.30 pm, they found jewellery worth Rs six lakh missing.

In Jayanagar 6th Block, the thieves broke open the front door of the house of R K Rajkumar when he had gone to his relative’s house along with his family members on Thursday and made away with cash and jewellery.

In Girinagar, the thieves used an iron rod to open the front door lock and entered the house of S S Venkatesh Gupta  on Thursday afternoon. They made away with jewellery worth Rs one lakh and fled. Gupta, who runs a provision store and milk parlour in Thyagarajnagar, had gone out with his family members when the theft took place.

In DJ Halli, the thieves used a duplicate key to enter the house of Nagesh Achar, an engineer with Doordarshan and a resident of Kaval Byrasandra, Nagamma Layout. They fled with valuables worth Rs 2.50 lakh when Nagesh and his family members were in Mysore to witness Dasara, said the police.

Unidentified body found
A woman was found murdered in a village near Devanahalli on Thursday. Passersby alerted the police on seeing the body in a field near Chikkasanna village, a kilometer from Devanahalli town. 

“The woman, aged 25-30, was strangled to death. It appears that she was murdered somewhere else and her body was dumped in the field,” Devanahalli police inspector V D Bykere said. She is 4 feet 4 inches tall and has a circular face.
