They were unhappy with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s response to their concerns over the KNPP, Hundreds of villagers and fishermen from nearby places observed fast at Idinthakarai coastal hamlet, three km north of the KNPP site. Shops in the Kudankulam area remained closed, reports reaching Chennai on Sunday evening said.

Leaders spearheading the anti-nuclear protest have decided to intensify their agitation in the coming days. The “Struggle Committee” coordinated by S P Udhyakumar, who was part of the Tamil Nadu delegation which met Singh in Delhi a few days back, has decided to continue their peaceful day-long fasts against the KNPP for two more days until Tuesday.

Speaking to Deccan Herald over the phone, one of the committee members said Manmohan Singh’s stance during their talks was “disappointing.” Initially, the Prime Minister had assured the delegation that a small expert committee will be set up to speak to the affected villagers and allay their concerns over the project.
