Binny struck 49 as Karnataka made 170 for eight. The total was built around a 72-run third wicket partnership between Ganesh Sathish (38) and Manish Pandey (49). In reply, Goa made 130 for nine as Binny (4-14) and Rajoo Bhatkal (2-22) did the bulk of the damage.

In the other matches, last year’s runners-up Kerala, powered by a 42-ball 49 by V.A. Jagadeesh, beat Hyderabad by three wickets and Tamil Nadu routed Andhra by 84 runs.

Hyderabad were restricted to 119 for seven with Ahmed Quadri (50) playing a lone hand and then Kerala reached the target in the last ball as Jagadeesh held the innings together with his 49.

Tamil Nadu, thanks to an opening partnership of 96 runs off 65 balls between Srikkanth Anirudha (50) and Murali Vijay (60), piled up 170 for eight with Dinesh Karthik (42) chipping in usefully.

Left-arm spinner S.H. Srinivas (4 for 27) did a fine job for Andhra whose batsmen however, flopped and they were restricted to 88/9.
