The credit goes to social activist Shivegowda, a good samaritan who so far has helped release of 13 prisoners who were languishing behind bars even after completing their jail term, for their inability to pay the fine amount.

The story of Priya hailing from Bangladesh is no less than a plot for a potboiler. Three years ago she sneaked into India and then to Mysore, thanks to human traffickers.
Utsav, son of Krishnegowda, an engineer and resident of Vijayanagar second stage here allegedly came in contact with the girl. He also had physical intimacy with her on several occasions.

All was fine until Utsav severed the relationship after learning that Priya was pregnant. According to Priya, Utsav had promised to marry her. To her dismay, police booked a case against Priya for illegal stay. She neither had a passport nor visa to claim her journey from Bangladesh to India as legal. The court convicted her and sent to two years jail term, besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000. Meanwhile, Priya lodged a complaint against Utsav in women’s police station. Police booked a case against Utsav under sections 417 (breach of trust) and 420 (cheating). Subsequently, he was arrested, but only to walk out on bail later.

Priya who was confined to the cell, delivered a baby girl at Cheluvamba Hospital.
Now, the baby named Sania is one year and two months old. Recently Priya completed her term of sentence, but was confined to the jail as she was unable to pay the fine amount. Shivegowda came to her rescue.

Priya who was shifted to Shaktidhama, women’s rehabilitation centre here vowed to fight till her daughter, the innocent victim gets justice. “Utsav has cheated me. Besides, Odanadi Seva Samsthe, an NGO that initially came to my rescue, left midway, after making promises”, she alleged. Utsav should accept Sania as his daughter and give life to both of us, Priya demanded.

Shivegowda said he has been helping hapless prisoners for the past several years. He wished that Priya joins her kith and kin in her native Bangladesh without any hassles. Police sources told Deccan Herald that Priya and her daughter have been shifted to Shaktidhama till their banishment according to law.

The case in which she is the petitioner is before the court. Chargesheet has been submitted and the trial is yet to begin.
