They desired to become engineers and began making efforts to get an education in engineering since the year 2009. But they were denied admission as there were no special directives from the Government of Rajasthan about admission for differently abled children in the technical training institutions.

Not wanting to give up, they wrote to the prime minister, HRD minister and other agencies concerned until these efforts finally bore fruit.

In June 2011, the Rajasthan Government issued specific directions to the technical education institutes to allow admission to the youths.

The responsibility of teaching them civil and electrical engineering was taken on by Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic in Udaipur. Prakash and Nitesh are now proud first year students of a Diploma in Engineering.

Prakash used to be an all rounder at automobile and electrical repair, while Nitesh, who had lost his mother when he was three, had managed to earn his livelihood by distributing newspapers. Now, they will be doing their best to excel in their courses.

The responsibility for these two youths was taken on by Vidya Bhavan in order to help  all sections of society develop, which is their motto.

“It is definitely a challenge. These children had to be given special classes and classes must be only in writing as they cannot hear or speak." said Principal Anil Mehta. He was confident that they would fulfil their ambitions.  Many organisations and individuals have come forward to help these boys.

Vidya Bhavan, established in 1931, is a sprawling complex of 15 institutions working for social change through education. Vidya Bhavan Polytechnic is a multi-dimensional technical education wing of Vidya Bhavan Society.

This polytechnic is affiliated to the Board of Technical Education Rajasthan, Jodhpur, and is approved by the AICTE New Delhi.

“Vidya Bhavan Polytechnic strives to produce socially sensitive and technically competent diploma engineers. The polytechnic also works with village communities for the technical skill improvement and livelihood enhancement of rural youth. Our vision is to develop and build technical manpower, who are not just highly skilled in specific field, but are also socially sensitive and enterprising citizens,”  said Mehta.
