Jaya has 'bowed' before judiciary: Karunanidhi

"I do not have the habit of demanding (someone's) resignation. It is her (Jayalalithaa's) habit to seek resignation on each and everything," he shot back when asked by reporters whether he would ask her to step down.

Karunanidhi alleged that Jayalalithaa had been delaying her appearance in the special court by seeking exemptions as she did not want to go to court.

To a question on demand by anti-nuclear activists leading the agitation against Koodankulam Nuclear power plant, that DMK come out of UPA to stop work on the controversial project, he said some political parties, unable to withstand a regional party sharing power at the centre, always make such demands.

He pointed out that the Centre has formed an expert committee to go into all safety aspects of the project and allay fears among locals.  Even former president Dr Abdul Kalam has agreed to visit the project site to dispel the fears of the people there, he said.

He said DMK was of the view that the concerns of the people should be addressed. "Efforts have been made in this regard with the constitution of the expert committee," he said.
