Modi turns down a Muslim's gift

Mohammad Fadia offered a scarf at a meeting in Navsari

The villager, Mohammad Fadia, denied that he had offered the religious scarf, despite television footages showing him offering it to the chief minister and the latter ignoring it. The claims of insults were also refused by the government, whose machinery is going overdrive in denying the reports. This is the second incident involving Modi and the Muslim community, as the Gujarat leader declined a skull cap given by a Muslim clerik during his three-day fast.

The opposition Congress is latching on to the controversies, pointing out to the communal nature of Modi’s government. Senior congress leader and union minister Tushar Choudhary targeted the Chief minister for showing disrespect.

“There is no harmony . This government is based on communal feelings and this is wrong.  This is fake sadhbhavna. By denying the Muslim offerings twice he has shown his true colours,’’ said Chaudhary.

Earlier in his address Modi yet again boasted about the law and order situation under his regime. He said how people could not yet forget the 1980’s as a decade of communal riots, arson , hatred, and thirst for blood, stabbing, teargas shells and curfew.

“Mothers were not sure if their sons would return safe of not. The last ten years have changed the people’s outlook, with peace and brotherhood becoming the way of life,’’ he claimed.

“Since the Gujarat has demonstrated what can be achieved with the atmosphere of peace and harmony. We can now confidently tell people to throw away the venom of communalism for the service of the nation,’’ he said.
