Criminal plaint against Ashoka, Yeddyurappa

Ashoka has been charged with illegally purchasing land at Lottegollahalli acquired by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for developing the Raj Mahal Vilas (RMV) Layout. The complaint alleges that Ashoka had directed the BDA to withdraw from acquiring the said land. A private complaint to this effect was lodged by Jayakumar Hiremath on Friday.

After the Lokayukta Special Judge N K Sudhindra Rao directed on Thursday that the charges enunciated in the complaint be investigated, the Lokayukta police received the order copy on Friday evening. After perusing the order, Bangalore City Lokayukta SP P K Shivashankar lodged the first information report (FIR).

The BDA had acquired farmers’ land for developing RMV Extension. According to the FIR, Ashoka illegally purchased nine guntas in survey No 10/1, and 14 guntas in Survey No 10/11. In 2009, Ashoka influenced the then chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to direct the BDA to withdraw from acquiring the land. Further, the application to the BDA to withdraw from the land acquisition was filed in the name of original owners. But the benefit was accrued by Ashoka. According to the complaint, the land could have fetched as much as Rs 30 crore to the state exchequer.

The FIR was lodged against all the accused under Section 13 (1) (D) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, Sections 409 and 420 of the IPC, and Sections of the Transfer of Property Act, 1882. The FIR was submitted to the special court on Friday evening. According to Shivashankar, an officer of the rank of DySP will be named to probe the matter.

‘Case against me politically motivated’

Home Minister R Ashoka, accused of involvement in illegal denotification of government land, on Friday claimed a case filed against him in the Lokayukta court was politically motivated.

Speaking to reporters after taking part in Police Commemoration Day, he said the same case had been filed against him for the third time in less than a year. “It is a political conspiracy. I will fight the case legally,” he said.

The Lokayukta court on Thursday directed the Lokayukta superintendent of police to investigate the private complaint filed by RTI activist Jayakumar Hiremath against Ashoka, accusing him of getting land denotified in violation of rules. The court also directed the SP to submit a report on the alleged illegal denotification of government land on November 5.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda refused to comment on the case saying, “I don’t want to react as the matter is before the court.”
