Rama, the head of the family is aged 80, who lives with his wife and five daughters. A thatched hut sans walls and doors, a 1.5 acre-paddy field are his property.

All his daughters are yet to be married who are the sole base for the family.
The Gram Panchayat had granted a house for them under ashraya scheme last year but nobody was there to help them to raise the walls. As per the rules, beneficiaries do not get the granted money unless the works are started.

Knowing the problems of Rama’s family, the Sthree Shakthi self-help group and Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala SHG members decided to kick start the works on Independence Day. They laid a foundation for the house on the first day through ‘shramadan’.

Gram Panchayat member M A Sheshagiri expressed his support by personally visiting the spot and involving in the shramadan.

Since the foundation is ready in two days, now, Rama can avail the first installment. The women have promised the family of completing the rest of the work once the rainy season ends.
