A rocking treat

enthralling A R Rahman and Ranbir in concert.Mumbaikars were treated to a musical extravaganza as the team of ‘Rockstar’ set the stage on fire at their Mumbai concert at Bhavan’s College Grounds recently. It was an unprecedented treat for fans as music maestro A R Rahman performed the songs of his upcoming Ranbir Kapoor-starrer ‘Rockstar’ live.

The thousands of people, who had gathered, kept cheering the genius and singing along.

Rockstar Ranbir showed why he is the heartthrob of millions as his first stage performance was a hit, with guitar playing, dancing and some special stunts played out for the screaming crowds. Hosted by Chang, the concert had a special introduction by director Imtiaz Ali who spoke about the film to the audiences.

Joining them were Mohit Chauhan — the voice of Ranbir in ‘Rockstar’, singers Harshdeep Kaur and Monica Dogra along with percussion guru Sivamani and Rahman’s key associate Ranjit Barod.

The crowds specially went crazy when Sadda Haq was performed on stage.
But the number Nadaan Parinde was what got the fans grooving. Ranbir and Nargis Fakhri danced to a sweet romantic number, enthralling the fans with their chemistry. The other songs performed from Rockstar included Jo Bhi Main, Kun Faaya Kun, Katiyan Karun and Tum Ho.

Videos of the making of the film and a special tribute to the late superstar Shammi Kapoor were also shown. Some sweet behind-the-scenes footage of Shammi, who has a special role in the film, were shown as well.

A R Rahman performed live for the first time for any of his films and had specially flown down his talented band for this concert.

The event was organised by Deepak Gattani of Rapport, who coordinates all concerts of A R Rahman, with special choreography by Ashley Lobo. A grand set in tune with the ‘Rockstar’ theme was created at the grounds.

The lavish set was in the unique shape of a cross with hydraulic lift and a ramp, creating a great platform for Rahman’s troupe and the other host of musicians. ‘Rockstar’ releases on November 11.

Proud to be a nomad

There isn’t one, but three places that Shruti Hassan calls home! And thanks to the amount of travelling she does for her work, she feels like a proud nomad. The 25-year-old actress says she feels at home in Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad. “In Hyderabad, talking seventh sense with my lovely co-star Surya. Good to be back home.

Let me clarify (sigh) — I call many places home: Chennai where I was born, Mumbai where I’ve lived and now Hyderabad; I’m a proud nomad (sic),” Shruti posted on Twitter. She added, “I’m lucky enough to have friends and family in all three places! Now back to work!!”

In the world of racing

The motor racing league, called the ‘i1 Super Series’, was launched in August this year. At its launch event, Machdar Motorsports, the promoters had announced that the series, based on the popular city-based franchise format, would have nine teams representing nine different cities in the country including Delhi, Chennai and other metros.

The first edition of the motor sports event is scheduled to hit the tracks in January next year. SRK’s company is considering the prospects of investment in the Mumbai franchise but nothing is clear as yet. “Personally, I don’t know much. I haven’t met anyone. My company is looking at it. They had talks with them,” Shah Rukh told the media.

The 46-year-old actor’s cricket team did not fare well in the three editions of the cash-rich tournament but in the fourth season this year, it reached the semi-finals.

Happy for friend

Actor and son of Kirron Kher, Sikander Kher, can’t believe his childhood buddy Abhishek Bachchan is going to be a father soon.

“I can’t believe he is having a baby. He is anyway very kiddish, but I am sure he
will mature now,” Sikander said on UTV Stars’ ‘Live My Life’.

The two actors are close buddies. Sikander also happened to disclose that Abhishek is keen on a baby girl. Abhishek’s wife, actress Aishwarya Rai, is due to have a baby in the second week of November.

committed Sanjay DuttDedicated to his passion

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt is in pain but is shooting with a wounded hand for Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Department’. Actor Rana Daggubati’s dates are apparently delaying the completion of the film.

“Sanjay Dutt is waiting for Rana to shoot their combination shots. I’ve almost completed my shooting with Sanjay Dutt. His part is incomplete because of Rana who doesn’t have time,” says Ramu.

“Sanjay is shooting with me in spite of a wounded hand. He has an infection on his right hand. The hand is bandaged and he is shooting keeping the hand out of camera range,” he adds.

Even director Karan Johar is so impressed by Dutt’s villainous act in Dharma Productions’ Agneepath that he wants more of him.

“The success of Dutt’s look and presence in the Agneepath trailer has prompted some quick re-thinking at Dharma Productions. They’ve asked Dutt for extra dates for a song that they want to shoot,” says a source.
