Last Updated 04 November 2011, 20:36 IST

Some students of the five-year course had questioned the norm that students who have not cleared more than seven subjects in the seventh semester and ninth semester are not entitled for admission to the next semester.

The  petitioners contended that the said conditions do not apply to the admission to seventh semester or ninth semester.

Supplementary exam

It was their contention that the supplementary examinations provides them an opportunity to clear the backlog.

Terming the action of the varsity illegal, the petitioners had sought directions to varsity and the college to permit them to appear for the examinations.

Justice Mohan Shantanagowdar in his interim order, directed the varsity to accept the fees and permit the students to appear for examination.

Order quashed

The High Court has quashed the order of Income Tax Tribunal which had ruled in favour of Infosys in a case claiming tax of about of Rs 10 crore on export of software.

The Income Tax department had assessed tax on the export of software and Infosys had challenged the levy before the Tribunal way back in 1993-94.

The Tribunal ruled in favour of the company and the department went in appeal.
