Sowing for Rabi season commences

2,404 hectare has been already covered in Dakshina Kannada

The target is to sow seeds in 24,000 hectare. That includes, Mangalore—1,347 hectare, Bantwal-385 hectare, Belthangady-203 hectare, Puttur-454 hectare and Sullia-15 hectare.  The sowing had completed in 589 hectare last year during the corresponding period. The agriculture department has given subsidy to seven farmers to purchase sowing machines during the financial year.

This includes Sullia-1, Puttur-2, Mangalore-2, Bantwal-2. A sum of Rs 77,500 has been given as financial assistance for the purchase of sowing machine. Last year, as many as three farmers had purchased sowing machine using financial assistance from the government.  To popularise SRI system of paddy cultivation, demonstration on SRI system was carried out in 104 acre during Kharif season. The programme is being organised jointly with the support of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project.

Dakshina Kannada district should have received 3,892.60 mm rainfall by the end of November. However, the district has received 4,103.56 mm rainfall as on November 4.
The agriculture department is sponsoring Kissan vani programme in Akashavani to provide information on nutrients in organic farming. The programme will be aired in 13 weeks on every Tuesday between 7 pm to 7.30 pm, said Joint Director Padmaiah Naik.
