City buses in Madikeri soon

The facility will help public commuting in a big way

With the commencement of the city service the common man and the poor will be benefited. 

In the first phase, it has been decided to run one bus on a particular route. By looking at the response from the public, the transport department will increase the number of buses. The Madikeri officials have already submitted the proposal to Puttur KSRTC division and are expecting the approval. Once the approval is obtained, then the Transport and KSRTC officials will carry out joint survey of the bus routes.

It has been decided to ply buses in and around Madikeri. With the city service, the people of Sampigekatte, Thalathamane, Mekeri, Rajarajeshwari Nagara, Bhagavathi Nagara, Vidyanagara areas would be benefited.

“Madikeri town has developed and expanded by leaps and bounds. Those who are living in nook and corner of the city would like to pay visit to the market. Hence, the city buses are essential,” said public.

As the bylane roads are very narrow, it would be better, if the authorities introduce mini buses, said Junior College road resident Ramesh.

Almost all the district headquarters have city service buses. If it is introduced in Madikeri, it would be better, he added.

Opposition

The auto drivers have opposed the move to introduce city service. They fear that it would affect their livelihood. The proposal on the introduction of city service was submitted to the authorities few years ago. However, owing to the stiff opposition from the auto drivers, the proposal was dropped.

The in charge RTO Siddappa H Kaller said “there are few people who travel in bus, auto and train. Those passengers who board a bus by paying Rs three will not hire an auto for Rs 30. Those who can afford will definitely afford it, he said.
