3 bio-medical waste treatment plants soon

Last Updated 08 November 2011, 04:37 IST

The announcement came during a panel discussion on “Extended producer responsibility” organised as part of Bengaluru Recycling Habba here on Monday. Almitra Patel, a member of the Supreme Court committee for solid waste management, alleged that the two plants now operating, do not scientifically dispose off ash.

“After incineration of the waste, these plants do not bother to scientifically dispose off the ash, which contains mercury and other harmful substances. When asked, the operators claim that they dispose of the ash outside the State. But every one knows all that they do is to dump the ash at a place 20 kilometer from Dobbspet,” Almitra said.

Sadashivaiah, in reply, claimed that the Board had taken all steps to ensure constitution of a third party audit team to monitor the bio-waste treatment plants. Ramky and Maradi have set up the two facilities.
