'Dead' boy wakes up in mortuary

However, as luck would have it, Radhey, who was declared dead by a doctor of a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, regained consciousness in the mortuary and woke up to a new life.

Although Radhey's parents are ecstatic about the “miracle”, doctor Pradeep Mittal, who signed the death certificate, had to pay for the lapse.

The government on Sunday suspended Mittal and ordered an inquiry into the matter.
Radhey was found in an unconscious state while working in an agricultural field on Saturday evening and was admitted to the district hospital. He was given treatment for poisoning, but he did not respond.

On Sunday morning, after the examination, Mittal pronounced him dead and directed the ward boys to shift the “body” to the mortuary. A post mortem was scheduled later in the day. As hospital paramedic Surendra began to shift the “body” on a stretcher for taking it for autopsy, it started to move slightly, much to the shock of the onlookers.

He was immediately rushed to the emergency ward where his condition is stated to be stable.

“Radhey may have been poisoned as a result of which his body organs may have stopped working. The medicines started to work on his body only after the effect of the poison waned,” doctors said.
