They were released later.

The protesters took out a procession from Santhe Maidan AITUC office to MG Road. During the protest they demanded control of price rise, security to workers and protection of labourers’ rights.

Later during the public meet at Azad Maidan, AITUC and CPI leaders condemned the unfriendly policies of Centre and the State governments. After the public meet the protesters tried to picket the head post office. At this juncture the protesters were taken away by the police in jeeps and vans and were later released.

They said packages ensuring security to the working classes must be brought out by the Government. They demanded implementation of labour laws without any deviation and sought legal action against those owners who flout or violate it.

Providing security to unorganized workers (plantation workers, Anganwadi workers and Bisi Uta workers), bringing in National Social Security Policy, keeping contract system away from daily works in departments, extending same facilities to contract workers as given to permanent workers were some of the other demands along with fixing of minimum wage to Rs 10,000 and removal of all limits applicable to Bonus, Provident Fund, Gratuity etc.
