Mehta had requested his friend in Bellary to give him Rs 10 lakh as loan. Mehta’s friend asked him to collect the money from his associate at Avenue Road. Accordingly, Mehta collected the cash, kept it in a bag and drove towards Nagarathpet in his two-wheeler to hand it over to Sukan Raj, the proprietor of Puja India and Company. He had hung the cash bag on the handle.

The unidentified man told Metha that something fell from his pocket. Mehta, who stopped his vehicle and looked around, was soon shocked to see the bag missing. Police said that Mehta did not reply properly when questioned and also did not have documents to show that he was carrying the money.
