According to the police, the incident took place near the City Market police station on Avenue Road when the victim Surendra Mehta, a resident of Rajarajeshwari Nagar was returning home. Mehta, is a licensing officer with Puja India and Company, a firm that supplies medicine to Government institutions.

Mehta had requested his friend in Bellary to give him Rs 10 lakh as loan. Mehta’s friend asked him to collect the money from his associate at Avenue Road. He had hung the cash bag on the handle.

The unidentified man told Metha that something fell from his pocket. Mehta, who stopped his vehicle and looked around, was soon shocked to see the bag missing. Police said that Mehta did not reply properly when questioned and also did not have documents to show that he was carrying the money.
