Police said the incident took place a few metres away from the Canara Bank on Varthur Main Road around 10.45 am. Anjinappa, a head constable and a resident of Madhuranagar, is constructing a house at Bhadranagar. He went to the bank at 10.30 am and withdrew Rs two lakh.

He came out of the bank, kept the passbook and cash in the cover on his bike’s fuel tank and started towards his house. Within seconds, he received a phone call. He stopped the bike near a pavement and got off the bike to attend the call. After answering the call, he got on to his bike to leave and was shocked to see the cash missing.

Anjinappa told the police the call was from his office and his higher ups wanted him to come to the office early. He told them that he would go home and rush to the office at the earliest. When he was speaking on the phone, Anjinappa felt some one riding close to his bike and speeding away. He noticed two youth zooming away, grew suspicious and checked for the cash, but it was missing.

The police verified the call details to ascertain if his story was true. The call details revealed that the call had originated from his office. The bank is under surveillance of CCTV cameras. When police went through the footage, they noticed two men moving about inside the bank suspiciously, watching Anjinappa’s movements.

“We have got some definite clues. We are convinced that the two persons inside the bank executed the plan. We will arrest them very soon,” Airport Sub-division ACP R Ashok said.
