Power outage leaves B'lore East thirsty

Last Updated 10 November 2011, 20:22 IST

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (BWSSB) call centre received at least 60 calls from residents of HBR Layout, HRBR Layout and OMBR Layout in Bangalore East.

“We do not receive water despite staying in a Bangalore Development Authority site with existing lines for water supply. Water is supplied through tankers twice a week, but this week we have received water just once,” said Yohan, a resident of HBR Layout.

Ordeal

A BWSSB engineer said it took them nearly eight hours to shift power lines from Somanahalli to Subramanyapura, where the first pump was restored at 4.30 pm on Thursday.
“It will take a couple of hours to restart all the pumping stations at the four stages. And once the reservoir is full, we can resume supply,” he added.

Leakage delays work

The engineer added that the BWSSB had taken up simultaneous maintenance work at Tataguni, which was delayed due to some leakage.

T Venkataraju, engineer-in-chief, BWSSB, said that except for Bangalore East, all other parts of the City were supplied  water on Thursday. Since East falls at the tail end, it was the first to be affected by any problem at the pumping stations, he added.
