Children dabble with colours on Nehru's anniversary

Speaking on the occasion, DDPI Nagendra Kumar said libraries are important for quality education. If students enrol in government schools then there would be no need to close them. However, as a few schools had only two or three children, a lot of funds are wasted as at least two teachers are required.

The government schools wouldn’t be closed if more parents come forward to enrol their children. Stressing on the need for interested organisations to come forward and join hands with the government schools, he said everybody should be involved and take measures in improving the literacy rate.

Apart from reading textbooks, children should take interest in literature and develop the habit of reading newspapers. The government had provided Rs 10,000 last year to upgrade existing libraries in all schools. They are being provided with books needed to enhance their knowledge.

Rush at zoo
Children crowded the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens and the Dasara exhibition as they were given free entry on the occasion of Children’s Day.

The enclosure comprising the tiger and the cheetah were the centre of attraction for the children. Several painting and fancy dress competitions were also organised at various malls of the city.

Parasailing
The Kautilya Vidyala organised a parasailing programme for its students at Lalitha Mahal helipad.

The students of Kautilya were thrilled when they got wings to fly in the air through parachutes. The event elicited a good response from Kautilya students.
