Berlusconi 'to release his latest album of love songs'

The 75-year-old billionaire businessman, who as a student crooned on cruise ships in the Mediterranean, spent two years writing the lyrics for the album, called "True Love", British newspaper 'The Daily Telegraph' reported.

The 11 songs he penned are sung by Mariano Apicella, a Neapolitan ballad singer who has collaborated with the former Italian Premier on similar albums in the past. "The album will be in the shops on Tuesday. Berlusconi wrote all the words and I put them to music," Apicella was quoted as saying.

The songs, inspired by traditional Neapolitan music as well as samba, tell of unrequited love and the longing for a lover. "I run my hands down your side, because it's you. I adore you and I already miss you," says a line from one song.

In another, Berlusconi, whose final term in office was marked by a string of sex scandals, laments "another day of wind and rain, another night without you". In a song entitled 'Stay With Me', he wrote "surround me with love, stay with me and leave me your heart", the newspaper said.

Berlusconi had resigned as Prime Minister last Saturday, bringing to an end his 17-year domination of Italian politics. His last term has been marred by sex scandals, "bunga bunga" parties, and criminal charges that he paid a 17-year-old girl to have sex -- accusations he denies.

The former Italian Premier is currently facing trial at a Milan court for having paid for sex with the underage Moroccan -born prostitute, nicknamed Ruby the Heart Stealer. The trial began in April, but has made little progress.
