The first such ward committee has been formed at Koramangala.

The ward committee governance is meant for empowering the RWAs financially to carry out minor development works without approaching the authorities.

The commissioner’s maiden meeting with the RWAs took place at Koramangala. He informed the members about the key objectives behind constituting the committees, their role, powers and responsibilities in building a clean-green City. Meena told the members, that all the stakeholders of Bangalore’s development have to come together and work for the city’s growth.

He informed the members that the BBMP would empower the ward committees to carry out work worth Rs 6 lakh annually.

He told them that the committees will have to open a joint bank account with the local officers of the BBMP, where Rs 6 lakh will be deposited annually. The limit for carrying out works is Rs 6 lakh, but if the committees succeed in generating their own resources, the BBMP would deposit a matching grant in the joint bank account.

He also told the members that the estimate of the work should not exceed Rs 1 lakh under any circumstance or else the RWAs will not be able to carry out works.
