Programmes for children

Sai Vigyan has started the following programmes:
English Club for students in the age group of 9-15 years. The course will cover the art of pronunciation, spelling, impromptu speaking and creative writing.

Mind Mapping: A course designed for students to excel in academics using different ways and techniques of storing information, organisation, note taking etc.

Chinna Katha: For young kids in the age group of 4-7 where they will explore story telling sessions of folk tales, mythology etc. and the world of puppets.

SmartQ:  It is a multi-level programme that gradually introduces the child to IQ, general knowledge, puzzles and vocabulary-building using crosswords — slowly increasing the degree of curiosity and intrigue. The programme is conducted in small groups. The SmartQ Junior course consists of 12 sessions per level while the SmartQ Foundation course consists of 16 sessions per level.

PG programme in film making
The International School of Film & Media (ISFM) has introduced India’s first international-standard Post Graduate Program in Filmmaking. This course covers each aspect of filmmaking from both theoretical and practical standpoints and is available in two formats:

An intensive ten-month programme in which classes run Monday to Friday for eight months followed by a guaranteed two-month internship
Alternatively, for students who are working or studying full time, there is also a fourteen month part-time programme on two weekday nights and Sundays with an optional internship.

The curriculum integrates intensive study in all the major filmmaking disciplines including screenwriting, direction, production, editing, sound, cinematography and acting.

Painting workshop
Art House is organising, ‘Painting from Nature’ a two-day on the spot workshop on exploring water colour on November 26 and 27, 2011, between 10:30 am and 4:30 pm. The venue is the Cubbon Park premises. A water colour practicing artist from Chennai has been invited to instruct the gathering. Fee: 3000 including working materials, lunch and tea. UC scholarships
The University of Cincinnati (UC) has many scholarships for Indian undergraduate students. These scholarships will include a number of full-tuition (valued at $100,000 total) and half-off scholarships (valued at $50,000 total) to qualifying students starting at UC in August 2012.

Strathclyde University challenge
The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, is launching a competition called – “Reach for the Stars competition to provide two Indian college students with an all-expenses paid, month-long trip to the University. The University’s Faculty of Engineering is renowned for its research in space technologies, and applicants to the competition will be asked to come up with a new business idea relating to the space industry.

The competition: Teams of two students will be challenged to come up with a new business idea related to the space industry. Students will be asked to register for the competition and 200 teams will be selected to take part in the challenge. The challenge will involve a three minute presentation which will have to be posted on YouTube within 24 hours of the challenge being released.

The teams will be judged on Creativity & Innovation, Costing, Marketing, and Communication. The challenge will be posted on January 28, 2012 at 9 am and students will be asked to have their presentations uploaded to YouTube by 9 am on January 29.
The winning teams will be interviewed (by telephone from the University of Strathclyde) and individual prize winners and runners –up selected.

Seminar on global high school education
EF International Academy, a private international high school with campuses in the USA and the UK, will be hosting a Seminar on November 26, 2011 at 4.00 pm at EF Education First, 3rd Floor, Salarpuria Cambridge Mall, (Near Ulsoor Police Station), Cambridge Layout, Bangalore.

The aspiration of this seminar is to bring awareness among parents on the importance of global high school education for their children and to lead a successful international career.

Henkel Innovation Challenge
The 5th Henkel Innovation Challenge, a global event open for students across India to compete as innovators, has been announced. The competition focuses on sustainability and entails that the innovations must contribute to sustainable development in areas such as reducing energy or water consumption.

The global competition will have teams from 14 European countries and the Asia/Pacific region compete for a top place in the challenge. This year’s international final will be held in April 2012 in Poland, the home country of last year’s winners. The winning team will receive an around-the-world ticket and a travel voucher worth €1,000.

As part of the challenge, students from any discipline will partner up in teams of two, to develop a concept for a product under a Henkel brand.

Little science workshop
Sutradhar invites teachers to a 1-day workshop on “Hands-on science for pre-schoolers” on December 17, 2011.

Young children are inherently curious and explore the world through all their senses. They are filled with wonder at various phenomena – the waxing and waning of the moon, ants that march along, bubbles that float, stones that sink, and flushes that suck things away…!

It is possible to introduce preschoolers to the tools of scientific enquiry – such as observation, understanding cause and effect, classifying, or watching things grow and change.

In this workshop, participants will learn some “hands-on” activities that they can use with children in the age group of 4-6 years. About 25-30 different activities will be introduced, in kitchen science, natural science, air, magnetism, and water.

KMDC’s programme for minorities
Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation (KMDC) is sponsoring the IFBI PGDBO programme for minority candidates in the state.

Eight per cent fees sponsored by KMDC through an interest free loan re-payable after placement. Selected candidates will go through a 3-month training at IFBI followed by a 3-month paid internship at ICICI bank.

Guaranteed placement on successful completion at ICICI bank as banking officer with a starting salary of 2.5 lakh per annum.

Eligibility: Candidate should belong to Karnataka; Should belong to any of the minority communities (Muslims, Christians, Sikhs or Jains); Should have been born on or after February 1, 1987; Should be graduates with: >=50 per cent score in SSLC, PUC and graduation; Candidates will have to clear a screening test at IFBI.
