The Parishat, embroiled in internal politics, had over the last 10 years not organised a single national workshop.

The workshop titled ‘Artists and the Art Teachers’ will be held at the Parishat premises on December 26 and 31, where even the faculty of the Art School will get to go back to school.
An amount of Rs 26.5 lakh has been earmarked for the workshop.

The department of Higher Education has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh for the programme. As many as 22 artists from across the country and five artists from USA, Germany, United Kingdom and Switzerland have been invited.

Each guest faculty will be paid a remuneration of Rs 50,000, said Parishath’s Chief Administrative Officer C N Rudrappa.

Training will be imparted in sculpture, applied art, graphics, painting and new media, while the guest faculty will make power-point presentations on each of these subjects between 3 pm and 6 pm, on all six days of the art camp.

Rudrappa said renowned artists from the State - including K G Subramanian, Gulam Mohammed Sheik, Prof Jyothi Bhatt, Yusuf Arakkal, S G Vasudev and J M S Mani - will be participating in the camp.

Art catalogue

The Parishat has spent Rs three lakh for the purchase of art material. It will also publish an art catalogue which will be released on the last day of the camp. The creative works produced will be displayed at the Parishat between January 1 and 7, next year.

“The idea behind organising the camp is to boost the image of the Chitrakala Parishat at the national and international level. For the last 10 years there have been no major activities held here. We want to send a message that we are active and are trying to contribute to the artist community,” he added.
