However, they have overtaken all governments in corruption as well as scams, ridiculed Legislative Council former chairperson B L Shankar.

Addressing a gathering at the valedictory of 4-day padayatre from ‘Sampaje to Mani’ here on Thursday, he said that never in the history of Congress any chief minister and so many ministers have gone to jail. “However, the BJP government has beat the 2G scam too,” he said.

Stating that the BJP or the Sangh Parivar members do not have the moral right to speak about Sonia Gandhi, he alleged that RSS Member Nathuram Godse began terrorism activities by assassinating Mahathma Gandhiji. “Nobody can prevent the victory of Congress in the next elections,” he said and warned against those who test the patience of the Congress.

A number of leaders including MLAs B Ramanath Rai and U T Khader among others took part.

‘Weakest CM’

Addressing the gathering at Puttur on Wednesday, District Congress Committee President B Ramanath Rai alleged that Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda is one of the weakest CMs the State had ever seen.

Stating that the Chief Minister does not have the will power on development issue, he said those who have will power can develop the district and the State.

“D V Sadananda Gowda had staged protest demanding support price for arecanut when the price of arecanut had slashed in the past. However, he has failed in distributing compensation to the farmers who have lost arecanut due to fruit rot disease. He is mum over the deplorable condition of the roads in his home town,” said Rai.

The Chief Minister should have taken up the work on Mani-Sampaje road soon after taking charge. The BJP MP from the region should have pressurised the UPA government to repair Shiradi Ghat road.

Rai also alleged that the State government is trying to weaken the institution of Lokayukta in the State.
