RD&PR dept begins work on caste census

The Department in an effort to transfer all data online will be using tablet PCs for the operation.

According to Director of Special Economic Programs, Deepa M, the process of cataloguing and tagging the data like the abridged house list from the last collected census in February 2011 has already begun.

“We wanted to be one step ahead and this data once transferred online cannot be tampered with,” she said.

The enumerators and supervisors have already been appointed and trained. Census operations will commence in two phases.

The first phase is likely to begin on December 1 and will cover Bangalore urban and rural, Chitradurga, Chikkaballapur, Davangere, Kolar, Ramanagara, Shimoga, Tumkur, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Uttara Kannada.

Phase II

The second phase will cover Mysore, Chamarajnagar, Chickmagalur, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Udupi, Gulbarga, Bidar, Bellary, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir.
The Department has requested the people to provide correct and complete information to the enumerators.

The census will allow the State government to compile a list of families living below the poverty line.

Information about caste, education and income will also be collected during this census.
