Last Updated 20 August 2009, 17:40 IST

The factory was closed following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by Khanapur residents. The Company had filed an interlocutory application seeking permission to transport over 7,000 tons of coal lying at Goa port and stock it at its premises.

The application said that not more than eight persons will work at the factory. A division bench comprising Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice V G Sabhahit has granted the permission.

The petitioners in the PIL had alleged that the factory was causing serious ecological damage and polluting river Pandari, a lifeline of Londa village, by discharging poisonous effluents. A division bench had directed the closure of the factory.
