Cops get 'police treatment'

A group of nearly 40 people assaulted police personnel and made away with the service revolver of a PSI at Itnal village in Raibag taluk of the district.

According to police, a five-member team of Kuduchi police, led by sub-inspector (Crime) A M Waghmode raided a farmhouse in Itnal village in search of people wanted in house thefts. As soon as they gained entry, the group, which was armed with swords, clubs and other weapons, attacked the police team and detained it in the farmhouse. Circle Inspector G B Goudar, on getting information, rushed to the spot with additional forces and “liberated” the policemen.

While 17 persons have been arrested, a few more escaped. An iron rod, clubs and other weapons have been recovered from them. A manhunt has been launched for the absconding offenders.
