For a noble cause

Ajay Devgan and Kajol recently attended a charity event in London hosted by the Loomba Foundation. Accompanying them on this trip were Kajol’s sister Tanisha and Ajay’s business manager Kumar Mangat Pathak.

The Loomba Foundation’s ‘Educate a Widow’s Child in India’ was held at the Savoy in London and was attended by prominent industry leaders and senior politicians. The foundation raised over £300,000 at the event through the generosity of its sponsors and the fundraising activities.

There was also a dazzling performance by 100 school children, who danced to the popular track Jai Ho.

Commenting on the cause, Kajol said, “The plight of widows is unthinkable and without financial means, it is even more scary. Education is the only way forward.”

Cherie Blair, president of the foundation, informed guests that the foundation, which was established in UK in 1997, has so far educated 6,221 children of poor widows in India and supported 27,000 family members. Many of the students have already completed their studies after receiving scholarship for a period of five years or more. She added that the foundation is currently educating 2,150 beneficiaries in 14 states in India.

SUPER SUCCESS Salman and Kareena in 'Bodyguard'. Taking the next step...

Siddique, the director of Salman Khan-starrer ‘Bodyguard’, has signed his next project after a lot of proposals that came his way post the huge success of the film. Siddique will direct a film for producers Shyam Bajaj and Narendra Bajaj. Apparently last year, when the shooting of ‘Bodyguard’ was going on, Bajaj was looking for a good director and had asked Salman about Siddique.

Salman had all good things to say about Siddique even before the release of the film. Shyam Bajaj confirmed, “Yes I asked Salman about Siddique and since he was happy with the way ‘Bodyguard’ was shaping up, he told me I should work with him.”

Post the huge success of ‘Bodyguard’, Siddique had offers from almost every banner possible but he told all the producers that he will first fulfill his prior commitment of making the film with Shyam Bajaj and then consider other offers.

Siddique said, “It was nice of Salman to recommend me to Shyam and Narendra Bajaj. I immediately agreed and am happy that I will be directing a film for them. There is no doubt that it will be a commercial entertainer.” The cast of the film is yet to be announced.

Joining the ‘brandwagon’

going commercial Shahid KapoorShahid Kapoor, who is back after a vacation in Spain, is trying to complete his ad shoots before he finalises new film projects.

In one of the commercials, he has teamed up with Priyanka Chopra.

He shot two ads recently in Madh Island on two adjacent sets — one for a paint brand and the other for a coffee brand.

He shot the coffee ad with Priyanka which required them to splash water on one another in a garden.

On being asked about his double-ad shoot, Shahid said, “It was just another working day. What’s there to say?”

Shahid and Priyanka are also shooting for Kunal Kohli’s untitled film together and while shooting the ad, both the actors tried to keep as much cordiality as possible.

But apparently, the duo simply refused to give joint bytes to the waiting television journalists who had gathered at the venue of the ad-shoot.

This refusal was most surprising in the light of the fact that the media persons had been invited to cover the shooting as a Shahid-Priyanka event.

Interestingly, director Ayaan Mukerjee, who is a close friend of Shahid, was also present at the venue to shoot another ad with Shahid.

“Shahid wouldn’t budge from his no-joint-bytes stance, and Priyanka agreed with him. They both felt that at this point in their working relationship, the last thing they needed was televised togetherness,” said a source.

False information

Earlier, the song Chammak Challo from Ra.One was leaked online before its official music launch and now, it has been reported that songs of Emraan Hashmi’s forthcoming film Jannat 2 have also been leaked on the internet — the actor has, however, denied it.

“No truth to the rumour about that ‘leaked song’ on the net, from Jannat 2 (sic),” Emraan tweeted. The song from Shah Rukh Khan’s superhero film Ra.One was leaked two days before its official music launch.

Directed by Kunal Deshmukh, Jannat 2 is a sequel to the 2008 film Jannat and will see model Esha Gupta as the female lead opposite Emraan.

Promotion blues

“Leaving for interviews to promote ‘Players’. Marketing of a film is way more hectic then making the film (sic),” the 29-year-old actor posted on Twitter.

The action-thriller is a remake of the Hollywood film ‘The Italian Job’ and also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Bipasha Basu.

Neil has also revealed the name of his character in the film. “PLAYERS! My characters name is SPIDER,” he posted. Directed by Abbas-Mustan, ‘Players’ will release on January 6 next year.

Committed to cinema

Yash Raj Films has forayed into the international market by launching a Hollywood-based production and financing company that will produce international content. The company, named ‘YRF Entertainment’, will focus on developing and producing feature films for the United States of America and the international market.

YRF Entertainment is funded by Yash Raj Films, the 41-year-old studio that was founded by film-maker Yash Chopra. His younger son, Uday Chopra, will serve as the CEO of YRF Entertainment.

“My family has a deep commitment to making and distributing quality films that entertain and enlighten audiences. I share that passion as well as a love for American films that I have had since childhood. It is that enthusiasm and my love for the creative process of film-making that drove me to start this new venture,” Uday said in a statement.

Uday has hired Jonathan Reiman to head development and production under him.
Currently, YRF Entertainment is producing and financing ‘The Longest Week’, a comedy film which stars Jason Bateman, Olivia Wilde and Billy Crudup.

Written and directed by Peter Glanz, the movie is being produced by Uday, along with Neda Armian. The executive producers are Jonathan Reiman, Chris Marsh, Stone Douglass and Taylor Materne.

The film tells the story of a bratty man-child played by Jason Bateman, who still lives with his parents in a Manhattan hotel, but suddenly finds himself evicted, disinherited and hopelessly in love with his best friend’s heartthrob, played by Olivia Wilde. The shooting for the film began last week in New York.
