Anxiety in City BJP over BBMP scam

Last Updated 27 November 2011, 19:10 IST

The MLAs and Deputy Mayor S Harish are questioning the inquiry report and are blaming Commissioner Siddaiah for entrusting Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) with the job of conducting a police investigation into the case without the consent of the Council.

Two City BJP MLAs — M Srinivas from RR Nagar and Ashwath Narayan from Malleswaram - have come out openly against Siddaiah’s decision to hand over the investigation to BMTF.
On Saturday, Ashwath Narayan told a press meet that no scam had taken place in any of the seven wards in his constituency.

Clarifying that the probe was not based on Assembly constituencies, the MLA said the investigation was being carried out division-wise.

To substantiate his claim, Narayan said the total works carried out in the Malleswaram division were worth Rs 497 crore, whereas the cost of the works carried out in his constituency was Rs 235 crore.

Though he claimed he was prepared for any probe in his constituency, he appealed to Siddaiah to provide further details of the scam.

Harish, who had told media on Friday about the dilemma on whether to hand over the probe to Lokayukta or the Central Bureau of Investigation, questioned the genuineness of the inquiry conducted by the Technical and Vigilance Cell.

“By looking into some files and documents, the Technical and Vigilance Cell arrived at a conclusion that there was a scam. Palike’s image is maligned due to the so-called scam,” said Harish.

Congress corporators are all set to raise the matter in the Council demanding a CBI probe.
