Comed-K not to share PG medical seats with govt

The Comed-K will conduct a common entrance test on February 12, 2012, to fill all the seats in private colleges. A total of 12 private medical colleges are affiliated to Comed-K.

According to sources, the Consortium has already conveyed its decision to the government and there had been no response from the latter.

Seat sharing has become a bone of contention between the private colleges and the government every year. Last year, in terms of the agreement with Comed-K, 33 per cent of seats were left for the government quota, 42 pc for Comed-K and the remaining 25 pc seats were reserved for the management quota.

It has become a practice for private colleges to retain the seats of specialisations which are in more demand and share the ‘not-so-lucrative’ seats with the government. The hopes of a streamlined admission process have been dashed with the State government deciding not to join the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for the time being.

K H Gopalakrishne Gowda, Principal Secretary to Medical Education Department, said the he was not aware of the letter purportedly written by the Comed-K. RGUHS too has published its schedule for admission to PG courses. The entrance examination is scheduled for January 29, 2012, and applications could be submitted from November 28.
