High Court summons KSPCB chairman

S Yogish Saliana, Karunakar Saliana and Prakash Saliana, all residents of Malpe near Udupi had moved the court seeking action against Raj Raj Fishmeal and Oil Company for causing pollution due to release of untreated effluent into the drain.

Noting that the company has failed to maintain hygiene, the petitioners stated that despite several representations to the Board in Manipal, no action has been taken. The petitioners also submitted that the KSPCB chairman, on May 17, 2011, inspected the place and found violations of Air and Water Act, but no action was initiated.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice A S Bopanna directed KSPCB chairman to appear before the court on December 1.
