Sensex sheds 162 points, dips below 15K level


The 30-share benchmark Sensex, which had gained nearly 202 points yesterday, fell by 161.81 points to 14,850.51 in the first five minutes of trade.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty fell by 52.55 points, or 1.17 per cent, to 4,400.90 points.

Brokers said selling pressure gathered momentum on the domestic bourses largely in line with weakening trend on the other Asian markets.

Asian markets were down by over 2 per cent in morning trade. Japan's Nikkei was down by 2.21 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Sang declined by 1.58 per cent.
