Prepaid autos now near Metro station

The decision is expected to add to people’s convenience. Namma Metro has already reduced travelling time between Baiyappanahalli and MG Road. There is also BMTC’s feeder service, starting from the Metro station, to boot.

“Based on the suggestions made by the commuters, we thought it would be convenient for people to alight from the Metro and hop on to an autorickshaw right in front of the station,” said a police official.

The prepaid auto stand which was earlier located a few metres away, was inaugurated last month by City Police Commissioner Jyothiprakash Mirji.

However, not all commuters are happy with the shifting of the auto stand.  “What we need is an autorickshaw stand on MG Road and the drivers should not fleece us. It does not matter if we have to walk a few metres down the road,” said Subhash Chandra Rao, a professor at a leading college.

The current location of the auto stand can hold fewer autos compared to the earlier location. “We have cut down the space, with room for eight autos in the new location, down from 15 in the old one, to increase the convenience of the people,” said the official.

It is argued that the new location will also help people on Brigade Road to hop on to an auto at the prepaid stand. But whether it can really be considered a perk, only time will tell.
