It is the first school to be shortlisted for the award in South India. <br /><br />Consumer awareness<br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald, Principal of the School, Prof Ammal, said Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya had been shortlisted because of the project prepared by students of the school. <br /><br />The jury selected the project titled ‘consumer awareness among rural community’.<br />Students undertook the project at Devarahalli village, having a population of about 4,000. <br /><br />They created awareness among the people about the facilities provided by the government and banks to farmers, crop loan and consumer rights. <br /><br />The students visited the local panchayat and banks to gather information pertaining to facilities given to farmers by government agencies and others. <br /><br />Usha, a student of class nine of the school, who was involved in the project, was delighted after the project work was shortlisted for the award. <br /><br />Online voting <br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald, Deputy Commissioner S S Pattanshetty, who is also the chairperson of the school, said of the eight best schools shortlisted, the e-India 2011 award will be finalised by a jury based on online voting, which ends on December 10. <br />Visit the website www.eindia.net.in for online voting. <br /></p>
