Elegant gestures: Manasi RaghunandanOdissi recital 

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is organising ‘EFCEP 2011’ on December 9, 6.30 pm at Yavanika State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

On the occasion, Manasi Raghunandan will present a solo odissi dance recital. Manasi is a renowned classical danseuse, who has conducted workshops and performed in India, Mauritius, Pakistan, Spain and France.

She holds a master’s degree in both odissi and bharatanatyam.

Natyasaraswathi Kuchipudi Academy is presenting its annual dance festival on December 11, 6 pm at Raghothama Smaraka Bhavan, RMS Colony, Sanjaynagar.

Sai Arts International will present ‘National Dance Festival 3’ on December 16, 17 and 18, 5.30 pm, at Seva Sadan Auditorium, 14th Cross, Malleswaram.

‘Sarpa Sutra’

Ashish Mohan Khokar’s ‘Dance DIScourse’ will be held on December 10, 6.30 pm at Alliance Francaise. On the occasion, there will be a special show of Sarpa Sutra, scripted and scored by playwright Gowri Ramnarayan featuring Sheejith Krishna in the lead and singer Nisha Rajagopalan from Chennai.


‘Strange Paradise’

Gallery Sumukha, in association with Wei-Ling Contemporary, Kuala Lumpur, is presenting ‘Strange Paradise: Memories of Empire, the Gods and Mulligatawny Soup’ by Anurendra Jegadeva till December 15 at Gallery Sumukha, 24/10, BTS Depot Road, Wilson Garden.

Group show

Glenfiddich and Tasveer are presenting ‘Chinese Photography Now’, a group show by Chu Chu, Liu Yue, Luo Yongjin, Ma Kang, Yang Yongliang and Yan Xinfa. The exhibition will be on from December 13 to January 4, 10 am to 7 pm. The venue is Tasveer, 26/1, Sua House, Kasturba Cross Road.

‘Dhiraj 75’

Gallery Time and Space is celebrating 75 years of Dhiraj Choudhury, a renowned artist, who is one of the leading lights of Bengal. The gallery is holding an exhibition of his works, titled ‘Dhiraj 75’. The inauguration will be held on December 10, 6 pm. The paintings will be on view till December 18, 11 am to 7 pm.



‘Cadence 2011’, an evening of timeless Christmas music with ‘Harmony Kids’ Choir’, conducted by Sandra Oberoi, will be held at Jyoti Nivas College on December 11, 5.30 pm.


Rajguru Smruti is organising a Hindustani classical music programme Parampara, in memory of late Sri Bhanu Tirumala, on December 11, 5.30 pm at Havyaka Sabha Bhavan, 11th Cross, Malleswaram. The programme will begin with the CD release of three of Pandit Parameshwar Hegde’s students — Amrutha Rao, Sridhar Hedge and Srivani Jade. This will be followed by vocal recitals by the three students and Pandit Parameshwar Hegde.

‘Fusion Dreams’

Sparsh Foundation is organising a musical programme, ‘Fusion Dreams — a Carnatic Jazz and World Fusion Concert’ on January 7, 6.30 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road. The concert will feature M Balamuralikrishna and violinist Jyotsana Srikanth. They will be accompanied by Shadrach Solomon on the keyboards, Alwyn Fernandes on the lead guitar, Karthik Mani on special percussion, A Amruth on Indian percussion, Keith Peters on bass guitar and Bernhard Schimpelsberger on the drums. Renowned rudra veena maestro Bahauddin Dagar will be performing on December 8, 6 pm at Satish Dhawan Auditorium, IISc, Yeshwantpur and on December 10, 10 am at Surana College, Satellite Town, Kengeri.

‘Deccan Herald’ and ‘Prajavani’ are presenting ‘Christmas Music Festival’ in the City from December 15 to 18. On December 15, 6.30 pm ‘Stuti Choir Group’ from Goa will perform at St Mark’s Cathedral, St Mark’s Road.

The ‘Bangalore School of Music Choir Group’ will perform at Ascension Church, D’Costa Layout on December 16, 6.30 pm.

Incredible trio

‘Jan Lundgren Trio’ will perform on December 8, 7.30 pm at the Alliance Francaise. Jan Lundgren is a Swedish jazz pianist, well-known for both his solo work and his jazz trio.

Lundgren had his first piano lesson at the age of five. After a period of classical training, he discovered jazz by chance in the late 1980s. Lundgren has always tried to utilise his phenomenal technique to enhance his musicality. His ability to integrate the most disparate musical influences into a fascinating whole is unique in itself.

His debut album ‘Conclusion’, released in 1994, propelled his career forward. The following year saw the formation of the ‘Jan Lundgren Trio’. David Andersson (bass) and Zoltan Csorsz Jr (drums) form part of the ‘Trio’.

The band has recorded seven well-received and commercially successful albums. Jan Lundgren is part of a remarkable and long tradition of innovative pianists from Sweden like Jan Johansson, Bobo Stenson and Esbjörn Svensson.

‘Timeless Weaves’
An exhibition called ‘Timeless Weaves 2011’ by Vidhi Singhania will be on at Vermilion House, 3/12 Cleveland Road Cross, Fraser Town, on December 9 and 10. Vidhi Singhania’s latest sari collection includes traditional Benares, Kotas in Lehariya, Batik, block printing embellished with embroidery and zardozi. The collection includes beautiful potlies. The Bangalore Film Society is presenting a Turkish Film Festival called ‘Take Me Back To Constantinople’ in two parts, from December 9 to 11 and from January 6 to 8.
