Alok Mohan to head to Singapore to pursue Masters in Public Management

With only four senior bureaucrats, from India getting an opportunity to join this higher learning programme offered by the Government of India, the IGP said that it is a great learning opportunity because his counterparts from different parts of the world will be learning along with him, thereby providing a suitable platform for exchange of views, ideas and culture.

The IGP will temporarily bid adieu to his posting and leave to Singapore during last week of December to be a part of this one year long (two semester) course. Alok Mohan had been the fortunate few from India to have had the opportunity to be trained with Scotland Yard police.
He has also had a stint with the UN during 1996-97. The IG said that all of these experiences had helped him in urban policing.

Addressing a news conference on Monday he said that the crime rate in western range has gone down. As against 81 house burglary cases reported last year, this year the number has come down to 53.

He said that people friendly policing is the most important thing because the people in distress often look at police for help. “Only when their hopes are not met, they blame the police. I have been personally meeting the police from the lower cadres to the SP level asking them to be approachable,” he said adding that his emphasis has always been on improving the mental and physical health of the police personnel may it be through yoga or some kind of physical exercise.
