Last Updated 15 December 2011, 20:49 IST

Paintings and photographs sourced from all over the world are on display at the exhibition inaugurated by Union Culture Minister Kumar Selja in the presence of the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

The exhibition is a panorama of the then Shahjahanabad times and the capital city constructed by the Britishers after their decision to shift the capital of British India from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911.

Pictures and photographs at the exhibition depict the construction of the new capital, including British-style buildings. The exhibition also has pictures of Chandani Chowk, Mirza Galib, Bahadur Shah Jafar, dances being presented by Indian artistes in front of the British VIPs, an upcoming Connaught Place, the Viceroy House, Council House, Rajpath, North and South Block, etc.

Dikshit said the exhibition would prove to be informative and interesting to the new generation. “This reflects the heritage, history and the composite culture of the city,” she said.

Union Minister Kumari Selja said there was no better way to present the  developments of the last 100 years in Delhi. The exhibition is organised to mark the centenary of the re-emergence of Delhi as the national capital.
